Why moatool?

Your files stay yours

Everything runs inside your browser. Contracts, IDs and private photos are never sent to any server.

Other conversion sites upload your file to a server, process it there, and say they delete it after a while. Until that happens, your file sits on someone else’s server. Here there is no upload step at all. The more sensitive the file — contracts, ID scans, medical records — the more that difference matters. See how to verify it →

Zero upload wait

Other sites spend minutes uploading your file. We skip that entirely — even huge files start instantly.

Actually free

No signup, no limits, no watermark. Processing many files at once is free too.

Which moatool site do you need? A site map, and what in-browser processing means

moatool splits its tools into separate sites by file type: PDFs, images, video and audio, spreadsheets, text, archives and ID photos. Here is which site handles the job in front of you, what “processed in your browser, never uploaded” means in practice, how to check it, and where the approach hits its limits.

A closer look

Each site covers one kind of file. pdf.moatool.app handles anything where a PDF goes in or comes out; img.moatool.app, photos and pictures; vid.moatool.app, video and audio; sheet.moatool.app, tables such as CSV, Excel and JSON; text.moatool.app, text tools like the word counter, password generator and QR codes; zip.moatool.app, ZIP, RAR and 7Z archives, plus file encryption and batch renaming; and id.moatool.app makes passport-style photos and print sheets. Only a few jobs sit on a border. Turning photos into a PDF and PDF pages into JPGs both live on the PDF site. Reading text in a photo (OCR) is on the image site, while scanned PDFs have their own OCR on the PDF site. Hiding faces splits the same way: Auto Face Blur for photos, Blur Faces in Video for footage. Turning JSON into a table is a spreadsheet job, but tidying or validating JSON is the JSON Formatter on the text site.

In-browser processing means that opening a page brings the tool to your browser, and choosing a file only gives that page permission to read it. The result is built inside the browser as a new download, and your original is never changed. No copy is kept on a server, so there is no history to download from later; save the result before you close the tab. The “0 B uploaded” line on most tool pages measures what the page has actually sent (its ? note explains that ad and analytics traffic is counted separately). For an independent check, open your browser’s developer tools (F12), clear the Network tab and convert a file: no request the size of your file shows up. All the sites are one brand from one independent developer, so a single Pro key and your light or dark mode choice carry across every site, and the English and Spanish versions sit under /en/ and /es/ on each address. The one exception is the ID photo site, whose main address is in English, with Korean under /ko/.

How to use it

When it helps

Paper documents shot on a phoneStraighten them with the image site’s Document Scanner (it saves JPGs), combine them with JPG to PDF on the PDF site, then use Compress PDF to meet the size limit. Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG first.
Files that arrived as a RAR or 7ZExtract them on the archive site and keep only what you need, then merge the PDFs on the PDF site and turn the tables into CSV or Excel on the spreadsheet site.
Before posting photos or videoStrip the location with Remove EXIF & GPS Data and hide faces with Auto Face Blur; for footage, use Blur Faces in Video. To send many files, bundle them with Create ZIP Files.
Sending a file with a passwordMake one with the text site’s Password Generator and use it in Password Protect PDF. Share the password by text message or phone, never in the same email as the file.

Common snags

A tool sits there for a while the first time.It is downloading its engine: about 15 MB for Compress PDF, about 16 MB for background removal and about 31 MB for the video conversion engine. This step needs a connection, so on mobile data, start on Wi-Fi.
The tab freezes or reloads with a large file. There is no server-side size cap, but files are processed in your device’s memory. Add fewer files at once, close other tabs, or switch from a phone to a computer.
Something will not work on my phone.Phone and tablet browsers cannot share the screen, so the Screen Recorder only works on a computer. On a phone, use its built-in screen recording.
DevTools shows lots of requests. Isn’t that an upload? Those are the page itself, engine downloads, and the ad and analytics scripts. An engine can be large, but that data is coming in. Click any request to see what it sent; none carries your file.

Tip From any site, the All Tools link in the top menu brings you back here to pick another site.

Frequently asked questions

Is moatool really free? Do I need an account?

Yes, every tool is free and there is no sign-up. There are no usage limits and no watermarks on your results, and processing many files at once is free too. Running costs are covered by ads; the paid Pro option removes the ads and does not unlock anything else.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Converting and editing run inside your browser, and the content of your files is never sent to any server. The page, and some tools the first time you use them, download a processing engine to your device; that is the tool coming to you, not your file leaving. The ad and analytics scripts make their own requests, but they never carry your files.

Can I check that for myself?

Yes. The "0 B uploaded" line on most tool pages measures what that page has actually sent. For an independent check, open your browser’s developer tools (F12, or ⌘⌥I on a Mac), clear the Network tab and convert a file. An upload would show up as a request roughly the size of the file; none does. The file security page covers more ways to check.

Which site do I use for what, and why are there separate sites?

Each kind of file has its own site: PDFs at pdf.moatool.app, images at img.moatool.app, video and audio at vid.moatool.app, CSV, Excel and JSON tables at sheet.moatool.app, text tools such as the word counter, password generator and QR codes at text.moatool.app, ZIP, RAR and 7Z archives at zip.moatool.app, and ID photos at id.moatool.app. moatool started with PDF tools and added one site per kind of file. They are all one brand, built to the same rule by the same developer.

What is Pro?

A paid pass that removes the ads on every moatool site. It costs about US$2 a month, and you can cancel anytime. Every feature works fully without it. After you pay, a license key arrives by email, and that one key works on every site. Your files are still processed in your browser; the only thing sent to a server is the check that your key is valid.

Is there an app? Does it work on phones?

There is nothing to install. Open the site in a current browser on your computer or phone and use it right away. Because files are processed in your device’s memory, very large files can be slow or fail on a phone, and the Screen Recorder needs a computer because phone browsers cannot share the screen. Heavier tools download an engine the first time, so on a phone it is best to start on Wi-Fi.

Who runs moatool, and how do I report a problem?

moatool is built and run by one independent developer, not a company. Send bugs, wrong explanations or tool requests to the email address on the contact page. Including the page address, your browser and your device helps get things fixed quickly. Please do not attach the file itself.
